Watch Waterloo Cup day action live
Saturday, 21 August, 2021, by Victoria Shaw
Sunday’s Waterloo Cup action will be streamed live on the National Coursing Association of Victoria Facebook Page from 9.30am.
“We’ll have all the finals live on the NCA Facebook Page, and we’ll also have every course of the Waterloo Cup live,” NCAV Secretary Sean Lithgow told Victoria Shaw.
“The first course will kick off at 9.30am on Sunday, and we’re starting with the four quarter-finals of the Waterloo Cup.”
Eight greyhounds remain in the running to win the Waterloo Cup after early rounds were conducted last Sunday at Longwood, with the 2021 coursing season to draw to a close this weekend.
Lithgow said it had been a phenomenal season of coursing, which has drawn huge interest including a full card of 64 nominations for last week’s Waterloo Cup heats.
“You almost feel bad because there are so many people missing out on a run. We have been in a dream scenario as administrators this season with quality, quality, quality,” Lithgow said.
Speaking of quality, Lithgow himself has coursed regularly with his group class superstar Dream Wizard.
“Whether you’re a Tier 3 maiden or a group class dog, coursing is going to sharpen you up and it brings out the natural chasing instincts of a greyhound,” he said.
“It just gives them a bit of a refresher. They’re racing one-on-one and not getting bumped around as much so it really lifts their confidence and gets them back in the game again.”
Lithgow said the competition will be fierce in the remaining rounds of the Waterloo Cup.
“Of the greyhounds competing this year, they are all rock hard fit, and their Waterloo Cup campaign for most, began in April, as they all want to win a Waterloo.”
As well as the remaining Waterloo Cup rounds, consolation events the Waterloo Purse and Waterloo Plate will also be played out on Sunday.
