The weather Gods were smiling in a big way on us today with top of 14 degrees, lovely sunshine and blue skies. Considering we were all preparing for the worst that could be thrown at us, everyone enjoyed the day and were pleasantly surprised.
This being our 152nd year of greyhound coursing in Victoria and that is something to be truly proud of.
Along the way we’ve adapted our sport and always with our supreme athlete’s needs firmly in our minds.
Let’s be honest here, we bring all their needs with us when we head off coursing. Apart from the obvious of leads, collars, muzzles and coats, we bring the kitchen sink, so to speak. We do our utmost to cater for keeping our greyhounds’ happy, cozy, fed and well cared for on their big day out. Where else can you sit with your greyhounds whilst they sleep away the day? Probably home in their kennels and I’m sure the greyhounds would prefer an opportunity to chase the drag lure in a one on one.
Our nominations were sound with 50 greyhounds nominating for our classic event the Victorian Waterloo Cup that ended up giving us 25 courses for the first round. The greyhounds that were run out in the first round of the Waterloo Cup had the opportunity to be drawn in the Waterloo Plate and the greyhounds run out in the 2nd round of the Cup had the opportunity to be drawn in the Waterloo Purse.
Our nominations have been very good for the entire season with our average nominations per meeting being 98. Including this weekend’s 3 events, we’ve conducted 103 events in 11 meetings. Of these 103 events, 51 have been for coursing maidens and 31 for puppies.
On to the Waterloo where we saw some of our seasoned performers nominate for the Cup in Alston, Levi Design, Walk With Pride and Scott Gnarly who are all up there in our coursing points for the season.
However, as is the case you never know what will turn up in the 1st round. Some make it through to the 2nd round and some don’t. It’s all about one simple thing, just keep winning and simple it may sound but it’s hard to achieve.
We saw the following make their way to the Quarter final of the Victorian Waterloo Cup with the following
run times. 1st Course/2nd Course/3nd Course
ALSTON 6.57/16.46, 6.60/16.57, 6.69/16.64
LEVI DESIGN 6.53/16.41, 6.62/16.47, 6.70/16.64
SONIC DIESEL 6.59/16.61, 6.64/16.61, 6.63/16.55
SCOTT GNARLY 6.60/16.63, 6.64/16.79, 6.76/16.88
BANK ROBBER 6.43/16.52, 6.53/16.55, 6.72/17.00
BEBOP JAZZ 6.68/16.72, 6.64/16.62, 6.60/16.60
CHESTER CAMPBELL 6.64/16.80, Missed this 6.79/17.02
Once again, we see two of our outstanding performers in Alston and Levi Design coursing head-to-head next week. This time they’re vying for a semi-final berth. Both are in contention for the greyhound of the year with only two points separating them. Sonic Diesel will Bas take on Scott Gnarly and with both Chester
Campbell and Bebop Jazz will move up the draw and compete having had a natural bye. Bank Robber will move down the draw and run a bye. Looking at the run times and considering a nice relaxing week for these greyhounds, there will be some awesome courses and close finishes.
Our Waterloo Plate which was conducted from the greyhounds ran out in the 1st round of the Victoria Waterloo Cup will see the semi-final as follows: –
YEAR YOU V SALTY SNOOP
DISTANT V ASHTON
Next week’s Waterloo Purse semi-final will see the following greyhounds take the field.
THORKILDSEN V SHIMA BALLAD
PAW WALDO V BYE
The Race Callers Run of the Day went to Son Of Cindy who was run out in the 1st round by Alston and in head bob in the Plate by Diamantina Pear.
Next week’s meeting will be our final meeting of the 2025 season, we’re hoping to conduct a full card of events (10). All being well we’re hopeful of gaining enough entries for a Veteran’s event and a Limit Stake to be conducted; of course that will be dependent on our nominations. If you’re considering nominating for these events i.e. the Veterans Cup nominate as CUP and Limit Stake nominate as LS and of course or All Aged Stake nominate as AAS there will be Maidens MS and Puppies PS.
Get your nominations in and support our wonderful part of the greyhound industry. We are one and united in the support we give to our industry!
