Longwood was back up and running yesterday and despite a few early teething issues, the coursing was completed in solid fashion. The Club should be very proud of having the track surface in such fantastic condition.
The features were the 4 heats of the Slips to Boxes. The winners of these heats were Super Tone (Pasquale Derubeis), Hatari (Noel Massina), Diamantina Pear (Shane Millsom) and Fire Up Mark (Paul Cusack). The four runner ups Mighty Miss (Chris Armstrong), Raging Elsa (Nicole Lummas), Is He Lucky (Paul Hammerstein) and Missy Who (Neil Lavelle) also qualify for what shapes as a cracking final to be held at Shepparton next Monday.
Yesterday also saw the first running of the Neil Mason memorial. Neil was a much loved and hard working member of the Longwood committee. It was wonderful that his family were there to present the trophy to one of his friends Brian Fothergill who’s dog Big Big Wolf was able to win the event. The family also received on his behalf the “Best Clubman” award that Neil was to receive at the 2025 NCA awards night held in January that he was unfortunately unable to attend. He received this award for excellent and continuous support and work for the Longwood Club over a long period of time. He was overdue to be recognised for his outstanding contribution and the whole of Victorias Coursing Community acknowledged and appreciated all he has done for Coursing in Victoria.
We also want to congratulate Fancy Faye (Elissa Franklin), Miss Maximus (Julia Creed), Hillbilly Hunter (Michael Hendy) and Mister Manfredi (Chris Armstrong) who broke their maidens. The Puppy Championship starts at Longwood on the 12th July and one of the favourites will be Exactly Like Dad (Paul Hammerstein) who won again yesterday over Oaks winner Catch Driver (Taylor Thornton). Until we see you back at Longwood, remember to tune into the Slips to Boxes Final at Shepparton Monday. It should be a cracking final!
