Yesterday we saw the conclusion of the Victorian Derby and Victorian Oaks. The young dogs strutted their stuff and we saw some fantastic coursing. The Derby was won by Sultans of Win (John Delaroche) from Linden Boots (Derek Clay) by about 4 lengths. Sultans of Win has been the standout dog of the series and has consistenly run the fastest times of the day. He will be a dog to watch going forward. In the Oaks, Catch Driver (Taylor Thornton) beat Exactly Like Dad (Paul Hammerstein) by about 2 lengths. Like her male counterpart, she has been consistently the fastest bitch in this series and a very deserving winner. The Derby consolation was taken out by Fall and Glimmer (Taylor Thornton) in a narrow win over Blackness Castle (Peter Craig). It completed a very good day for Taylor who is enjoying a great run as a trainer. The final feature was the Oaks consolation in which Dirty Roxy (John Spizzirri) defeated her littermate Dirty Ruby (John Spizzirri). Well done to John with his 18 month old litter likely to continue to improve significantly as they get older. The other big winner was trainer Les Weeks who had a winning double with Zipping Una and Max Pearl. Both dogs were impressive and you couldnt wipe the smile off Les’s face. Other winners on the card included Is He Lucky (Paul Hammerstein) who took out the All Aged Stakes and also Yandama (Dallas Massina), Crack On (Aaron Campbell) and Word Gets Around (Andrew Paraskevas) who broke their maidens. Well done guys. In further good news, the Longwood track has been signed off by GRV so coursing will return there on 28th June for the Slips to Boxes heats. The final will be held at Shepparton on 6th July. The rest of the card will be made up of Maiden and Puppy events. We will see you there!
